Our gas is around $4.25 per gallon...converted from litres.

Mary, you're right about getting around too. Many towns do not have public transportation so there aren't many choices when you have to travel to the bank or grocery store.

My parents have to spend quite a bit to pick me up and bring me home in a couple weeks. I would like to work at the local cafe in town even it is dishwashing because then I can just walk (it's like 7 minutes). I know I want to excercise more this summer too. I just need some motivation so maybe I'll have workout sessions with my dolls.

3$ per gallon sounds like a dream to me. We currently pay between $ 5.38 and $ 5.47 per gallon in our area.

I always wondered how a family with more than two children could go anywhere together. With 5 children, nothing smaller than a mini-van works for us.

I was also wondering if the gas prices in Europe had increased as much as they have here. We are screaming about $3 a gallon and you are paying over $5?

I wondered about those tiny European cars, too. We had a small car before we had kids - a Honda Civic. I only have 3 kids and 1 is now in college, but my van is often full of my Girl Scouts, soccer and baseball carpools. We also have an Acura MDX that seats 7 and has a trailer hitch to pull a trailer to the dump to recycle yard waste and to pull snowmobiles, jet skiis, etc. and go on short vacations with the 5 of us plus our luggage and skiis, etc. I don't put on many miles because I have a home office, but when I do drive, I make good use out of my van or SUV by filling it up with kids.

I have a seven passenger van which I am hardly driving now. I use DH's commuting car, a Saturn. That car gets 35 MPG/highway and 30 MPG/Around town.

I only drive that van when DH is working out in the field and has to drive his car. I also walk to my destination if it is less than 5 miles RT and I do not have anything to carry back.

It had really affected our vacation plans too. We were planning a long road trip, but I do not know what we will be doing now....

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">This is what an SUV should be used for! You can complain about how much it costs to get gas.

It's the people who are driving Hummers for fun on their commutes by themselves and complain who really get my goat. If they want to drive their Hummers, fine (well...) but if they want to complain, well they have no sympathy from me.

When I have something to do in town (where I live not Vienna) I usually walk - it's just 5-7 minutes by foot. Exception is if I then drive on to do something else or you need to carry something really heavy.

Last Friday my mum and I walked into town and bought this lovely chandelier (just with candles) to be hung in our new rose pavillion and the shop assistant asked us whether we don't park far. We said no we just walked here. 'Do you want to get your car to take it home?' - no we'll just carry it home it's not so heavy. They asked us at least 3 times whether we don't want to go home and get our car, but it wasn't heavy at all - just a bit funny looking carrying a chandelier as they didn't have a bag to fit it in.

Here, my dad is complaining because it is $3.19 per gallon. I feel bad for Miki though.
